Twilight Plague

At first glance, as you run down our new release manga section on our website, the week looks interesting but with a couple exceptions (like Detroit Metal City Volume 4), overall not too exciting. But then you get to the bottom of the list and you have to blink twice because your eyes can’t quite make sense out of what you think you’re seeing. Stephanie Meyer has invaded the manga shelves! That’s right, the Twilight Manga Volume 1 has arrived. Now the cover merely states “Twilight The Graphic Novel”, though distributor listings actually say “Twilight Manga”. And the adaptation is done by Young Kim, which would technically make it manhwa anyway, but I digress. I know this comes as good news to many Twilight fans out there. You finally get to see your precious Edward in manga form. And I will say this, the cover art doesn’t look terrible. I suppose I’m just glad that Shakespere and the Bible made it to manga form before Twilight did. […]

March On Viz

Welcome boys and girls to the first release week of March, and it all belongs to Viz. The Shonen Jump and Shojo Beat go flying this week and I’m sure you’ll be getting a little giddy. First on my “things I’ve been waiting for” list is Tegami Bachi Volume 2. It’s a little annoying that it’s going to be taking so long to release the indiviudal volumes, but that’s the price we pay when a series is also being run in Shonen Jump magazine. WaqWaq and Tegami Bachi both released they’re first volumes at the same time. And while WaqWaq itself has not been entirely punctual, as much as I love it, at least it has made it as far as the third book already. Now we finally get to see the second book of Tegami Bachi, and I’m ready for more of it’s twilight watercolor style, (that’s twilight as in the time between sun and moon). […]

Back to Work To Buy Those Comics

IMPORTANT NOTE: Shipping this week is DC’s Nemesis The Imposters #1. Just so we are clear this is NOT the new Mark Millar comic from Marvel staring modified versions of DC’s Batman and the Joker. Let there be no confusion: the Marvel comic featuring evil Batman will be called Nemesis, too. I mean Nemesis #1, not Nemesis #1 from DC. That makes perfect sense, right? […]

What’s Your Level of Commitment?

So I guess introducing myself would be the best way to start this thing huh? Very well then, my name is Chris and this is the first entry on the Forbidden Planet Gundam-focus model kit (or Gunpla if you’re that hardcore) blog. Over the next couple of weeks, myself and my team of Gunpla fanatics (Loran and Monty, who you’ll be introduced to shortly), will be building kits. sharing our progress with the readers of this site, and hopefully drum up some interest in FP’s revamped Gundam section, which we all worked on to improve and meet the fan’s needs and desires. Some of you may already know Monty and Loran from 2009’s New York Anime Festival’s Model Kit panel, and I’m thrilled to have them sharing their kit building expertise. I can honestly say I’m definitely not as good as either of them in this hobby, but I’m good enough to help any potential newbies out there curious to start building kits of their own. Aside from our online tutorials, you can (hopefully, lol) expect some video, general Gundam news and product reviews, submissions of kits done by the model kit community (feel free to submit your kit pics and descriptions to nygunplayblog@gmail.com) and hell, maybe we’ll toss some Gundam related-cosplay pics up here as well every so often.
