Pirates, Robots & Ghosts! Oh my!

By Mat K.

In case you guys out there have not been keeping up with the new releases on our website, you have to know that there is a lot going on this week. It is the first week of the first month of summer, and that means all the good stuff is pouring out. Of course this week was also Memorial Day, which brings me to one sad point of contention, that all these books get one less day in the spotlight than if it was a regular week. Now, as for the title of this weeks little article there is just that much stuff coming out, not to mention demons, ninjas, vampires, doctors and soul reapers. That’s right, all the big names come out this week and while lots of them may well be Viz titles, not all of them are.

Lets start with, once again, a massive influx of One Piece in the way of volumes 49, 50, 51, 52, and 53. In this run we bust out of the Thriller Bark story line and into Sabaody, where Luffy saves the Straw Hats from Gecko Moria. Also arriving are Bleach Volume 31 in which the journey in Hueco Mundo to save Orihime continues, and Naruto Volume 48 where Naruto has a heart to heart with the real Pain, and you learn about Pain’s history, how he was an orphan in the ninja wars, and how he and his friends were watched over and trained by Jiraiya.

Despite the Major Three, the runner ups also come out this week. My personal favorite and reason for excitement this week is the release of Claymore Volume 16. After Miria reveals the origins of the Yoma, the Seven Warriors split up to settle their affairs and say their goodbyes in preparation for the final battle against the organization.Helen and Deneve fall in with a young warrior in the current generation of Claymores, and soon confront the Organization’s latest, most terrible weapons. Sweet. Closely followed this week by Vampire Knight Volume 10 where the night class is still under attack, and the Headmaster joins the fray to protect his students. And then there’s Muhyo & Roji’s Bureau of Supernatural Investigation Volume 17 where ghosts take over one of the Association’s prisons and Muhyo is in a deep sleep and won’t wake up.

There are a few new series debuting this week as well, like Toriko by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, Fairy Navigator Runa by Miyoko Ikeda and Mihiyo Kikuta, and Library Wars by Hiro Arikawa and Kiiro Yumi. But We are going to focus on the new Mega Man ZX Volume 1 by Shin Ogino. Hundreds of years in the future, humans are able to merge with living ‘biometals’, transforming into Mega Men! But are even the combined powers of the Model Z and Model X biometals enough to take down the sinister Slither corporation?

Anyway, that’s all I have for you this week, which in my opinion is quite a lot, aren’t you glad you have that graduation money? See you next time!

Ja Ne!
