Redemption Involves Ass Kicking And Asking Big Questions

Ma-Yi Theater Company in association with Vampire Cowboys presents “The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G

If you don’t know the Vampire Cowboys, you’re depriving yourself.  The pioneers of geek theatre are back remounting last year’s downtown hit in a midtown venue, written by the Sith Lord himself, Qui Nguyen, and fantastically directed by Robert Ross Parker.  If you love girl fights with samurai swords, Vietnam 80s action movie fight homages, softcore porn narrators, and a man dressed in a yellow Cookie Monster inspired suit known as “Gookie Monster,” this is the show you’ve been waiting for.

At the center of it all, Mr. Nguyen weaves his most personal story to date, creating a meta-fiction that transcends the plethora of genres he uses in attempts to tell the story of how his cousin, Hung, came to America, escaping persecution in Vietnam, but how he, the Playwright, has never told the story truthfully. If you want the best theatre bang for your buck in New York, see “The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G.”

Now can you dig that, suckaaaaaaaaaaaaas?

The Inexplicable Redemption of Agent G” continues through March 4th at The Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row, 410 W 42nd Street; 212-239-6200, ma-yitheatre.org.
