Val’s Toy Chest- MARVELous Toys at SDCC

As promised in my previous column I am going to discuss the various Marvel-related toys announced at this year’s San Diego Comic Con. Hasbro, Hot Toys, Diamond Select, NECA and others will be releasing toys of various Marvel favorites over the rest of this year into the next.

Hasbro picked up the reins of the Marvel Legends line from Toy Biz in 2007 and has continued producing the 6 inch line thru the present day with a hiatus or two in between. Marvel Legends series announced for next year will include a Captain America: Civil War series and another Spider-Man series. Many first time figures are on their way from both lines including Mockingbird in her modern uniform, the female Beetle, Speed Demon and the eagerly anticipated Spider-Gwen action figure with interchangeable Gwen Stacy head. Taskmaster, Venom, Ben Reilly Spider-Man, Morbius and Captain America will all get updated figures. Hasbro won’t be ignoring their 3 3/4″ line either as we see figures of the Jane Foster Thor, Carol Danvers Captain Marvel, Gamora, Rage, the Vision, original costume Daredevil, Yondu, the Sam Wilson Captain America and more join the line. Hasbro will be packaging the figures in either single packs or their newly resurrected comic two packs.

Hot Toys will continue producing figures for their various Marvel movie lines including Avengers: Age of Ultron figures of Elizabeth Olson’s Scarlet Witch, Paul Bettany’s Vision and Maria Hill as portrayed by Cobie Smulders. The Ant-Man movie figure was also recently announced which will feature the titular hero as played by Paul Rudd. With the sheer amount of beautiful Hot Toys figures coming out it is going to be hard collecting all of the ones I want as much as I would like to. Newly arrived in-store from Hot Toys and Marvel is the gorgeous Chris Evans Captain America as he appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Diamond Select displayed Zombie Sabretooth, Ant-Man and Dr. Strange figures from their ongoing Marvel Select lines as well as numerous new series of Minimates including characters like 70’s Dazzler, Howard the Duck, Jane Foster Thor, Sam Wilson Captain America and Carol Danvers Captain Marvel. NECA finally unveiled their quarter scale Hulk figure and also showed off an Iron Man Mark XLIII. Gentle Giant, Kotobukiya, Square Enix and 3A all have a piece of the Marvel pie and have an array of high-end product featuring the Marvel characters on the way.

Recently arrived in the store this past week include POP figures of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Hagrid and Voldemort as well as the Fourth and Tenth Doctors from Doctor Who along with Star Wars Black 3 3/4″ figures of Han Solo in Carbonite, Leia as Boushh, a Jawas two pack, C3PO and more characters from the entire Star Wars mythos. We also got a small restock on Arrow TV series figures including Oliver Queen, Sara Lance’s Canary, and the Dark Archer.

Incoming this week from DC Collectibles will be the final figure in the New 52 line of the Joker and a gorgeous Cover Girls of the DC Universe statue of Wonder Woman designed by Stanley Artgerm Lau. On the Marvel side of things we will have individual PVC figures of Marvel mainstays like Deadpool, Spider-Man and Captain America from Monogram. There will also be a restock on the latest Black Widow POP vinyl from this summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

That’s all for this week! Next week: More news out of San Diego including He-Man news and Thundercats?!?
