Val’s Toy Chest- NYCC 2017 Wrap-Up/More Hot Toys

Hey guys- I spent part of my weekend at New York Comic-Con (NYCC) and had a great time- there was even a smattering of toy news that came from the con too. Hasbro’s newest reveals include updated Marvel Legends versions of Mr Fantastic (likely a Walgreen’s Exclusive) and Taskmaster, as well as characters like Multiple Man, Prowler, Spider-Man Noir and Gladiator. Mattel wasn’t at the show but had a handful of figures from their Multiverse line at DC’s booth. I mentioned The Ray in an earlier column, but they also had a Rebirth Wonder Woman, Gotham by Gaslight Batman, Lex Luthor and Vixen on display as well. That Vixen figure looks to be a keeper!

Hot Toys also had a presence at NYCC in the Sideshow Booth this year with several pieces from Thor: Ragnarok and Star Wars: The Last Jedi on display. Hela and Valkyrie look pretty amazing as Hot Toys pieces and the new Rey may have to come home with me. There were several other items on display at Sideshow’s booth including the beautiful new Premium Format statue of Batwoman.

Speaking of Hot Toys- there are some more incoming figures to talk about. The first of these is one I know you all have been clamoring for since the first season of his Netflix show- Daredevil! If my estimate is correct, these should be here by Friday. I also got notifications for The Punisher, Jyn Erso and Ripley from Alien, though those should probably be here sometime next week. If you want a Daredevil figure let me know ASAP as I think these will go fast.

Those of you who missed out on the 40th Anniversary Star Wars Black figures of Han Solo and R2-D2 can breathe a sigh of relief as we are getting a restock on those two specific figures this week.  No word on wave 2 of these yet and it looks like if we do get them it will be sometime in 2018. Keep watching this column for updates on 40th Wave 2. For your Star Wars fix, we still have some of the most recent Black Series figures in stock including Last Jedi Rey and Kylo as well as Force Awakens Luke. As the movie release date approaches I expect these figures to pick up some steam.

70s television icons charlie's angels Jaclyn Smith, Kate Jackson, Farrhah Fawcett-MajorsOn a completely random note, I’ve been re-obsessed with the original iteration (1976-1981) of Charlie’s Angels these last few months and have been watching an episode or two a night which makes the recently revealed news that Dynamite Publishing is going to create comics based on that era even sweeter for me. I can’t wait to see who’s writing and drawing it nor can I wait to see which of the original six Angels will make the cut. I’d personally like to see all of them appear so we can catch up with Sabrina, Jill, Kelly, Kris, Tiffany and Julie(and Bosley, too!) and see some post-series adventures and maybe even some unseen cases from these gorgeous private eyes.

Catch you all next time!
