Val’s Toy Chest- San Diego Comic Con 2017 Toy News Pt 1

San Diego Comic Con 2017 has come and gone, but there were plenty of new toy reveals to talk about this year, we’ll focus on DC and Marvel toys this time around.

DC Collectibles has revealed a brand new line of action figures called DC Essentials which looks to be replacing DC Icons. Characters that are in this new series include Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Nightwing and Deathstroke. DC also had a Black Canary and Zatanna for their DC Bombshells action figure line as well as an Expressions pack for Harley Quinn and a Jokermobile for their Batman: The Animated Series line.

DC’s licensing partner Mattel put all their San Diego focus on the forthcoming Justice League film. Characters in the Multiverse line include Batman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Cyborg and Superman. The Collect and Connect will be Steppenwolf and there will be as-yet unnamed store exclusive figures of Mera and a Parademon.  Three additional Multiverse figures not shown at the con were revealed online through the Action Figure Insider website and should hit stores in 2018: Simon Baz, The Ray(!!!), and a Rebirth era Wonder Woman, with more to be revealed at a later date.

As for Marvel, Hasbro has plenty of cool toys coming out- some will be exclusives while others will be regular releases.  Characters coming to Marvel Legends next year include- ’90’s Cable, Domino, Black Bolt, Classic Namor, X-23, Songbird, Deathlok, Spider-Punk, Gwenpool, Mysterio and the Lizard. Store exclusive figures include a Defenders 4 pack featuring Daredevil, Jewel (aka Jessica Jones), Power Man and Iron Fist in their comic looks, Medusa and Mr Fantastic. Hasbro is also doing a figure/vehicle assortment which features Ghost Rider and his motorcycle as well as Black Widow and hers.

Fans of the 1990s Toy Biz Marvel Super Heroes line will get a nice throwback with the 6″ vintage wave. In a similar vein to the Star Wars Vintage Collection and the recent Star Wars 40th line, these figures will be packed on cards reminiscent of the ’90’s toy line. Captain America, Spider-Man, The Punisher, Iron Man, Wolverine and Black Widow comprise the first series. Hasbro is also doing a figure/vehicle assortment which features Ghost Rider and his motorcycle as well as Black Widow and hers. The Widow in this set differs from the aforementioned cycle version.

Mezco’s highly popular 1: 12 line continues with Catwoman, Batman Beyond,  a new Batman and Joker as well as film Aquaman, and Thor: Ragnarok Thor and Hulk figures.

Hot Toys debuted several new figures for their various movie lines including a fairly complete lineup from Justice League, Thor: Ragnarok and figures from Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Wonder Woman. New characters to the Hot Toys line include DC’s Cyborg, The Flash and Aquaman and Marvel’s Valkyrie, Hela and Yondu as they appear in their respective films.
