Action Comics #1000 storms the shelves this week! Finally, after all the hype this week marks the milestone celebration of the first superhero comic. Well, the first one to make it to a thousand issues. DC Comics is bringing out all the stops to make this an anniversary issue to remember. With covers from some of the best artists in the industry, new and longtime, to commemorate every era of Superman. There’s also the debut of Brian Michael Bendis in this issue. Plus, an unpublished tale illustrated for the charismatic Curt Swan and nods to what’s in store for the Man Of Steel’s future. Eighty years gets eighty pages in this oversized epic that’s going to fly off the walls this coming Wednesday.

One of the fun things about an anniversary issue is to that it becomes an all-stars display. This time around the talent is pretty fierce. There’s an exciting mix of older voices and new ones lending their talents to celebrate Superman’s epic run. Who’s who? Well, let’s start with this list:

Obviously, the most interest piquing story to be told will the twelve pager from Brian Michael Bendis and Jim Lee. Mr. Bendis is getting ready to launch into his John Byrne-esque run with the greatest superhero of them all. This prelude will be a big indicator as to the type of stories we’ll be seeing in the coming months. For those of you who haven’t heard, Mr. Bendis will be writing an eight party Man Of Steel mini-series and then will be writing the bi-monthly Superman and Action Comics titles. It’s a Herculean undertaking by the most talked about acquisition to DC’s bullpen of creators. Will he deliver the goods? You only get one chance to make a first impression and this is it. We’ll find out this Wednesday when Action Comics #100 lays siege to your wallets this New Release Day.
