The Very Best Of The Invaders

Marvel’s first heroes. Captain America, Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier, the Human Torch, and Namor. The subjects of some of the greatest and most iconic stories in Marvel history reunite this week for Invaders #1. It’s a thrilling new series from Chip Zdarsky, Carlos Magno, and Butch Guice as the remaining Invaders unite against Namor in his brand-wide war on the surface world.

To prepare yourself for the most thrilling book in Marvel’s 80 Years celebration, here are some great stories from each of these Invaders that you can pick up right here at FP.

Captain America: The Ed Brubaker Complete Collection
Kicking off with the now classic Winter Soldier storyline (and the return of Bucky Barnes), this is considered by most to be THE Captain America storyline. Redefining the character in the modern era and taking him in a bold new direction, this classic series is some of the best stuff in the Marvel canon.

Bucky Barnes: Tales of Suspense
The Black Widow is dead. But her enemies keep getting knocked off. Only Hawkeye and The Winter Soldier can team up to discover who is killing in her name. It’s a hilarious road trip comedy and a criminally overlooked miniseries that will ease right in to a great Winter Soldier storyline.

Namor: Avengers #10
While we’re just a few weeks away from rereleases of both Submariner: The Depths and Keiron Gillen’s stunner run on Uncanny X-Men, I heartily recommend the current Avengers series, in which our boy Namor is the primary antagonist. Avengers #10 in particular was one of the best issues of last year and it has some of the most prime Namor material in years.

The Human Torch: Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman – The Complete Collection
I know, I know. Wrong Human Torch. But nowadays, appearances by the original Torch are few and far between. Your best bet is going to be Rick Remender’s excellent run on Secret Avengers. But if you just need more flaming men in your life (and don’t we all?), I cannot recommend enough Jonathan Hickman’s property-redefining run that is finally being collected in the beautiful editions it deserves.
