Maybe Jason Aaron’s Is My Favorite Avengers Book Ever?

It very well could be.

Hi. Let’s play a little game called “Is the current Jason Aaron Avengers book Kevin’s favorite one ever?” It’s a long-winded and very specific kind of game, but it’s one I’m increasingly interested in playing. After a shaky six issue start (what Avengers book is without one?), this book has shot up to the very top of my pull list for each and every issue. The second arc is stunning, thrilling, and full of incredible surprises. Y’know, exactly what you want out of an Avengers book.

The line-up of this book is tops. Captains Marvel & America, Iron Man, Thor, She-Hulk, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Ghost Rider. Already this is one of the best ensembles the Avengers have had. I’d put it up there with the Cap/Hawkeye/Maximoff twins era and the original New Avengers. This dynamic cast of A-listers and surprise guests have lead to some killer stories.

First there was Loki and the fallen Celestials. Then Namor rose up in a campaign of revenge on the surface world. Now with a campaign of rival teams like the the new Squadron Supreme, the Winter Guard, and a brand new high council of vampires, the Avengers have more than their fair share of incredible foes to go up against. All the while, Aaron and Co. are weaving a tale from an untold era of the Marvel Universe: the first Avengers team from 1,000,000 B.C. It all feels as epic as that sounds, like you’re watching a new future classic unfold month after month.

The point of decision is fast approaching. My other favorites like Uncanny Avengers: Unity had a solid twenty issues. New Avengers was exemplary for the first twenty before Civil War threw it directly in the garbage. We’re fifteen issues in to the Aaron era and just a few short months from making a proper judgment call.

The second volume of what just might also be your favorite Avengers book lands this week. Adam Kubert & Sara Pichelli lend their incredible art to the volume. It’s some Can’t Miss Avengers business. So grab Avengers by Jason Aaron Volume Two – World Tour and let me know how right I am.
