I Now Pronounce You Mr. & Mrs. X

The OTP grab their own book!

Mr. & Mrs. X #2

The following was originally published in the Weekly Planet 7/25/18.

Rogue and Gambit: the faces that launched a thousand ships. Ships of course being a word which here means, “The desperate pining of a fanbase for two fictional characters to get together.” Anna Marie and Remy Lebeau are the original ship of our time. All other pairs pale in comparison to these southern belles and the tales they tell.

Whether you latched on to Rogue and Gambit in X-Men: The Animated Series or the Mutant Massacre, you know what I’m talking about. These two are the hottest commodity around (and I mean that in every sense of the word).

It’s a romantic dynamic as good as anything Jane Austen ever scrawled. Forbidden love. The lovers who cannot touch each other. Opposites that complement each other so well. The Avenger and the thief. I dare not go on as I’m already fanning myself.

After some time apart, the pair were reunited in the dynamite miniseries “Rogue & Gambit,” by Kelly Thompson and Pere Perez. It’s a whip smart, crackling romantic comedy. Thompson perfectly captures the voices of the characters. She fills the book with all the banter you could want from this pairing. And Perez does a magnificent job on art, making just about the randiest book you’re liable to find in a Marvel volume. The series has just been collected in a trade paperback that will serve as the perfect summer read.

Mr. & Mrs. X #1

Oh, but I’m not done. See, I don’t know if you heard but Rogue and Gambit got hitched in X-Men Gold #30 and now they have THEIR OWN ONGOING. Mr. & Mrs. X #1 is on stands RIGHT NOW and you can get in on the ground floor of what is sure to be a rip-roaring good time for these two newlyweds. Thompson is staying on writing duties, which is absolutely the correct choice. And she’s joined by Oscar Bazaldua on the art.

You’re in safe hands with Mr. & Mrs. X. I think a great romcom is exactly what self-serious superhero comics need these days. I will absolutely be picking up Mr. & Mrs. X this New Comic Book Day and I advise you do as well so we can enjoy the company of these two for a long time to come.
