Let me start this article off by saying thank you to the 4 of you who actually read these posts. I know people do, because whenever I bring up a Figma or Revoltech or something super rare on the website, it’s off the shelf a week later. Good hustle readers, an extra point if an elbow was thrown to secure said item in the process. Both of those TTGL Revoltechs I mentioned a few weeks ago are gone, as is that War Machine figure I covered! Mari sadly remains on the shelf (Asuka fans made sure to grab that Figam right quick), but Eva 2.22 is now on DVD and Blu Ray, which we have in stock and you should buy, as well as the first Eva rebuild movie. Go buy. Go buy now! And speaking of Gainax, we now have the Gurren and Lagann 2-pack Revoltech in stock, and much like every other TTGL Revoltech I’ve talked about, it’s great, it’s a little over $30, and it’s worth the money! (My Gainax bias showing yet folks?) Unrelated to the anime but related to merchandise I’ve written about, we now have the 1st series of Dissidia Trade-Arts in stock, so if want some figurines based on a Final Fantasy that’s come out within the last decade, here’s your chance.
Anywho it’s now March, which means we’re roughly a month and a half away from the release of Marvel Studios’ Thor movie. I’m expecting your typical origin story with some Ultimate Universe influences that will somehow tie into the 2012 Avengers movie (Spoiler: Hawkeye and Nick Fury will appear tying it in, blah blah blah more $$$ for Marvel). That means Hasbro will release a slew of toys and merchandise for the childrens, as well as the man-childrens (S’up?). Today’s blog will cover the first wave of Thor toys, mostly because Nerf is involved.
That’s right! Corporate synergy has granted Nerf the right to make Thor role-play toys (for kids. Not for the bedroom sicko. Unless you can get away it, then HIGH FIVE!) which consists of a tiny plastic Thor helmet for the kids, a Thor-sword, and of course 2 types of Mjnoir, one made of Nerf and is fairly tiny, and the other being the ” Thor Lightning Hammer”, which is larger, not made of Nerf (BOO!) but lights up and makes all sorts of thunder sounds. Which makes sense, with Thor being the God of Thunder and such. Either way, these toys go for about $14-$25 depending on the product.
In addition to said role-play figures, Hasbro released the 1st series of smaller Thor figures, which may or may not be the first time we’ve gotten an Anthony Hopkins action figure. Or at least one not related to Silence of the Lambs in any sort of way. Either way, series 1 consists of Battle Hammer Thor, Sword Spike Thor, Lightning Clash Thor, Secret Strike Loki, and Shield Bash Odin. While this isn’t the first time Loki has received a figure, this is the 1st time Odin has gotten one, outside of Heroclix. Either way, I’m impressed with the sculpts on his smaller scale features, as they did a solid job of capturing the actor’s face, and hey, over-sized weapons are ALWAYS awesome. They go for about $12 bucks a pop and you probably want to get them now before the movie drops and you’re competing with children for them.
