Superman Suffers The Oz Effect In Action Comics

Finally, Maybe We'll Find Out If Mr. Oz Is Ozymandias!

Action Comics Oz Effect Superman

All roads to the revelation of Mr. Oz’s identity begins here. Superman readers have been teased again and again about the identity of the mysterious figure. Now, more than a year has gone by and soon all of the guessing will be over. What began in DC Universe: Rebirth #1 will take the next major step forward as “THE OZ EFFECT” begins in earnest this week in Action Comics #987. And yes, there will be a cool lenticular cover…a month before Marvel has a bunch of lenticular covers (good timing, bro!)

DC’s entire Rebirth publishing directive has definitely had more hits and misses. And believe me, we can tell from numerous anecdotal and hard financial evidence that more casual and new readers are enjoying DC’s line of titles now than they did in the waning days of the New 52 era. One of the most impressive feats DC has done is build anticipation for answers to the big questions. We all know that Dr. Manhattan and Superman will cross paths this November. But what fans have continued to buzz about is who the man in the hooded robe has been.

We’ve seen Mr. Oz kidnapping certain players in the DC Universe. The goal’s been the same: Keep them “off the board.” Why? Whose side is he on? Why those specific characters? Everything seemed to be going according to plan until the events of the Superman Reborn storyline wherein something spoilerish happened that y’all should be the book to find out about. Because it’s important and will have some major consequences, probably. So now, Mr. Oz is going to act. And his actions, we’ve been promised, will rock Superman’s world just in time for his showdown with the godlike Dr. Manhattan.

Who’ve you been guessing in your office pool? Will Mr. Oz be Ozymandias? Could it be Jor-El? How about Superboy-Prime (Geoff Johns loves that guy!)? We’re getting closer and closer starting this week in Action Comics #987!
