The Hunt For Wolverine Is Over

The following originally ran in the Weekly Planet 8/29/18.

The waiting is done. After years without a James Howlett running around in the 616, everyone’s favorite mutant canuck is back. Though he left several Wolverines and even a couple Logans behind, nothing could replace Weapon X. How could it? From the moment he survived an incredible beating in The Dark Phoenix Saga, Marvel might as well have changed its name to Wolverine Comics until just a few years ago. Solo adventure after miniseries after movie after leading an X-team were rolled out and summarily devoured by fans the world over. At 5-and-some-change feet tall, he still stands head and shoulders above the pack. He was dead for a while (long story). And he’s finally back from the dead in HUNT FOR WOLVERINE: DEAD ENDS #1.

The mystery of Logan’s resurrection has been teased out for months (long story). After meeting his end in The Death of Wolverine, the first glimpses of his return happened all the way back in Marvel Legacy #1. There he was gripping an Infinity Stone. He later dropped that stone in a toilet tank so that Black Widow might find it (seriously, Infinity Countdown is so good). He watched the mutant matrimony from afar in X-Men Gold #30. He popped up in one page stories in the back of some of your favorite Marvel books where he appeared to be in all places at all times.

Then came The Hunt For Wolverine. Logan’s body was missing from its assumed eternal resting place. Different groups of Marvel’s finest went off to figure out where it went. The New Avengers (with the All-New Wolverine) crashed a supervillain auction. The X-Ladies traveled to his old haunt of Madripoor. Logan’s greatest foes hunted him for their own reasons and found far more than they bargained for. Everyone has a piece of the puzzle. DEAD ENDS will show us how it all fits together.

Charles Soule (Daredevil, Curse Words) put Logan to rest in the first place, so it’s only right that he be the writer to bring him back. Ramon Rosanas (All-New Wolverine, Astonishing Ant-Man) is on art duties so you know it’s going to be a good one. The man knows his way around drawing some claws.

Years of story have all built up to HUNT FOR WOLVERINE: DEAD ENDS #1. It’s on sale right now. Y’know, in case you want to buy a comic about the return of one of most iconic characters in fiction. Wolverine has come back to us at a time where our Marvel heroes (and the X-Men in particular) are in grave danger. As always, he’s just in the snik’t of time.
