Val’s Toy Chest- Halloween Gets Here Early!

Halloween has arrived early this year with the brand new NECA figure of original heroine Laurie Strode as she appeared in the newest Halloween film. Based on the likeness of Jamie Lee Curtis, Laurie has a mini arsenal of weapons, an interchangeable head and swappable hands to take on the Shape when he comes a knocking. Horror heroines don’t often get the figures they deserve to get so this is a nice change of pace. Whether or not this paves the way for a classic Laurie Strode depends on who is in charge of the licensing on the original 1978 film as those rights seem to be in limbo at this time. Meanwhile reports indicate that both the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th licenses are done at NECA for the time being. Any of my hopes for a Nancy Thompson for this year’s 35th anniversary of Elm Street seem to be dashed.

Marvel Legends are on our shelves! Far From Home Spider Man, Mysterio and Stealth Spidey, Spider Woman Julia Carpenter, Doppelganger Spidey, Hydro Man and Scorpion make up the newest series of Spider Man Legends and certain characters may even be sold out by the time you read this. That isn’t all as the latest Avengers series has also made our shelves and include Shuri, Rescue, War Machine, Beta Ray Bill, Loki, Rock Python and Union Jack. Shuri and Rescue are my top picks for the line though I also love how Bill came out. For the Spidey wave, Molten Man is the build-a-figure, while the Hulk is the one in the Avengers wave.

Not to be outdone though is the arrival of the newest Multiverse waves. Shazam and Sivana come straight from their cinematic adventure and into your homes just in time for the physical Blu Ray/DVD release while the Ninja Batman wave brings Rebirth versions of several Teen Titans and John Stewart. Closing out the wave is a gorgeous figure of Cress Williams’ portrayal of Black Lightning from the eponymous CW series.

All this and Star Wars too! Archive Series 2 features reissued versions on new packaging of long sold out characters including Yoda, Darth Maul, the Biker Scout and Anakin Skywalker. Each 6″ scale figure comes with their original accessories so you can add these long unavailable figures to any new collection.

Finally, Aquaman has made it into the Hot Toys collection. Based on his appearance in Justice League, Aquaman features the likeness of Jason Momoa and is beautifully detailed. Add him to your Justice League collection today!

That is all for me this week- see you next time!
