The Best Is Yet To Come: A New Age for The Magnificent Ms. Marvel

The best of the best continues on.

Without a doubt, the best and most important superhero comic of the decade has been Ms. Marvel. The life and times of Kamala Khan, a bright girl from Jersey City who also happens to be a smash hit Muslim superhero headlining her own book, has unfolded in a series of resonant and relatable character stories. G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, & Sana Amanat’s creation sells like a monster in trades and is inches away from huge mainstream success.

When it was announced that Wilson was leaving the book she had shepherded to great success for five years, I was at a loss. She had built such a robust and wonderful world. The supporting cast of Ms. Marvel is one most heroes would kill for. There was such an incredible sense of both long and short form storytelling. Stealthily, it has been one of the best books on shelves for the entire length of its run.

The consolation prize is that the perfect team is coming in to pick up where they left off. Saladin Ahmed (Abbott, Black Bolt) will handle the writing, with Minkyu Jung (Batgirl, Nightwing) bringing the art. This is the kind of pairing you always hope for but never thought you’d see. This is some highly acclaimed talent on an A-list Marvel book.

Update your pull lists because the newly christened MAGNIFICENT MS. MARVEL #1 is on stands today.
