Val’s Toy Chest- 2018 New York Comic Con Toy Reveals

Hey guys- so I was able to spend some time at New York Comic Con this past weekend and heard about and saw some new stuff. What you ask? Let’s take a quick look.

Hasbro– Hasbro had a couple of events throughout the weekend to show off some new product from their Marvel and Star Wars lines- while I didn’t get to see these in person, I can tell you what was announced-

Marvel Legends– Ebony Maw and Corvus Glaive from the Black Order as seen in Avengers: Infinity War will be making their plastic debuts sometime in 2019. There will also be a Beta Ray Bill, Forge, a Caliban Build-A-Figure, a Kingpin BAF, a two pack commemorating Kraven’s Last Hunt with Kraven and Black Costume Spider-Man, Supreme Leader Cap and Arnim Zola as well as a Jim Lee era Jubilee. Previously announced figures from the new Marvel Riders wave, Professor X and Deadpool were shown as well including the accessories they will be coming with. Deadpool comes with a Bob the Hydra Agent head while Xavier comes with the head of the Shadow King, both can be used with pre-existing Marvel Legends figures to expand your collection.

Star Wars Black– Comics star Dr Aphra recently made the leap from the pages to the 3 and 3/4″ line(available now!), but she will also be in the Star Wars 6″ line sometime next year, along with 000 and BT-1. There was also a Target exclusive Luke Stormtrooper and Gamestop exclusive Rocket Trooper figure shown.
FunkoThere was one new line announced at the show this year, which thus far is an Amazon exclusive, but I bring these up because Funko and DC were handing out free samples at the show- this the new DC Primal Age line which looks to expand on the recent Savage World figures that Funko has been releasing these last couple of months. If you like Masters of the Universe and DC Comics, this new toyline might be up your alley, featuring the old Mattel style from the classic 80s He-Man line and melding them with new designs for characters like Batman, The Joker, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Scarecrow, Wonder Woman and more. These do look pretty cool and I may get one or two of these. The NYCC exclusive Mr Freeze figure was pretty neat and definitely hits the right nostalgia notes for me.
DC Collectibles– Just a couple of new figures announced for the Essentials line- including the previously shown Wonder Woman, her arch-nemesis and future movie star, The Cheetah along with a brand new Supergirl and Cyborg Superman figures. The three newer figures look pretty cool and I may or may not get a couple of them.
Diamond Select– A few characters from Avengers: Infinity War will make their plastic debuts thru the Marvel Select line including Thor, Teenage Groot, Captain America and Iron Spider. There will also be new Marvel Gallery figures of Angela, Black Cat, Mr Sinister, unmasked Black Panther, Shuri, Cloak and Dagger, Squirrel Girl and more. DST’s DC offerings include Dark Knight Rises Batman, Bane and Catwoman Gallery figures, Tim Drake Robin and Batwoman Gallery along with comic versions of Flash, Green Arrow and Supergirl.
NY Comic-Con was fun, but I am glad another year is in the books! See you all next time!
