The War of the Realms Has Come

A new devastating Marvel event is here.

Thor and his compatriots have fought. And failed. Malekith the Accursed has constructed his Dark Bifrost. The most destructive armies in the nine realms are at our doorstep. They’ve already laid waste to the dwarves and the light elves. Humanity is next on the chopping block. Welcome to the War of the Realms.

You’ve heard me say before that Jason Aaron’s run on Thor has been the best superhero book on shelves since it began. Each new wrinkle in the life of the Odinson has yielded incredible stories. When this run is over, they should hang up Mjolnir because who knows when there’s going to be another Thor run this good? And every step of the way has been building to the War of the Realms.

The battles can no longer just be waged by Thor, Jane Foster, and the forces of Asgard. Marvel’s whole heroic canon will need their boots on the ground to prevent Earth from being crushed beneath the Queen of Cinders, the frost giants, and the overwhelming hordes of the realms’ most formidable foes.

There are tons of great offshoots for War of the Realms coming. The Avengers’ largest lads are going undercover as Frost Giants. The McElroy Brothers bring their fantasy storytelling prowess to Journey Into Mystery. Squirrel Girl‘s nefarious foe Ratatoskr (and noted Very Evil Squirrel) makes its return. But the big action that you just can’t miss is happening in the main book. War of the Realms is the most excited I’ve been for a Marvel event since Secret Wars and if they can keep even a fraction of the masterful storytelling of the main Thor book, this is going to be one for the record books. It might even make a go at my favorite event, Dark Reign.

So grab The War of the Realms #1 RIGHT NOW from Jason Aaron & Russell Dauterman and get ready for the next epic chapter in the Marvel Universe.
