Even Secret Empires Fall

Can Marvel Redeem Itself and It's Greatest Hero?

Secret Empire Captain America Marvel Comics Legacy

The end is here! The final battle to determine the fate of Hydra’s regime will be fought in Secret Empire #10. To say this has been a road filled with twists and turns, both in terms of the story and the story about the story would be an understatement. Perhaps Marvel’s most controversial event series is finally coming to a close with the big boss fight of “Captain America” Steve Rogers taking on the entire Marvel Universe. The heroes have defeated his armies and allies, now they must test their mettle and might against him.

Is there hope for a satisfying conclusion to this latest mega story from the House of Ideas? It’ll be tough to tell. Cap Hydra, as he’s become so well known on forums, in press, and at the water coolers, might be beyond redemption. Of course, a good redemption story would mean a damn good story. And who doesn’t love a comeback? But the comeback isn’t for Steve Rogers, the comeback we’re hoping for as someone who works in a shop and as a reader is for Marvel.

To give Secret Empire some credit, they’ve gotten the issues out a lot swifter than Civil War II. I believe in this month we got the final three chapters, that might be a new record for the publisher. Especially when considering this was never promised to be on a weekly schedule like DC’s Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad was back in December of last year. So, some lessons have been learned it seems. It also seems like Marvel wants to sprint to the finish line as fast as they can to begin their Legacy initiative.

Can’t say I blame them but lets hope that the end of this race provides something we readers can cheer for, other than the fact that it’s the end. Will the Marvel Empire continue to fall or will their reign on the comics market be positioned to gain back its losses? Find out this week in the can’t miss Secret Empire #10.
